This is a collection of gaol description and entrance books from 12 prisons and gaols in New South Wales, Australia. The time periods for these records vary by gaol, but the set of records stretch from 1818-1930. These records were made when a new prisoner arrived at the gaol and may contain a photograph of each prisoner along with number, name, aliases, date of portrait, native place, birth year, details of arrival, trade or occupation, religion, education, height, entrance and exit weight, hair color, eye color, marks or special features, trial information and details of previous convictions.
